You're invited to join us for a special night of worship organized by the South Carolina Baptist Singing Churchmen on Thursday, January 20, 2022. It will take place in the FBC Conway Sanctuary at 6:45pm. Everyone is invited. Feel free to bring a friend or two!WHO ARE THE SINGING CHURCHMEN? The South Carolina Baptist Singing Churchmen is a men's chorus made up of Music Ministers from across the state serving South Carolina Baptist Churches. It is a member supported group that is celebrating 60 years in existence. Each member considers the group to be an extension of his own ministry. We first met together to sing for our state convention meeting in 1958. There were very few ministers of music at that time, and we began this group in order to encourage other churches to call ministers of music, and to give our minsters of music visibility in the convention. Soon we began giving concerts in local churches and on other occasions. Our first tour with a group of men was in 1968. Tom Westmoreland took 20 members to the Philippines for six weeks. They conducted simultaneous services in churches throughout the islands during the six weeks. Our second trip was to take about 20 men to Alaska to conduct simultaneous services in March 1976. It was two weeks in length and each minister of music served in a different church each week. Since then the Singing Churchmen have made several other tours as a singing group which include Puerto Rico, West Virginia, Romania ('99), Taiwan ('03), the Gulf Coast ('06), India, Baltimore/D.C. ('11), Dominican Republic ('12 & '18), London, United Kingdom ('14), and NAMB Send City, Cleveland, Ohio ('15 & '16). In addition to our church concerts, the Singing Churchmen have presented concerts in prisons, malls, markets, and on the street, as well as for the Southern Baptist Music Conference, Church Music Leadership Week, and for the American Choral Directors Association. During our concerts we receive a free will offering to help meet musical needs that arise here in our state, our country, and around the world. With the offerings received, the Singing Churchmen have provided support and musical equipment (keyboards, instruments, guitars, handchimes, handbells, and portable sound systems) for ministries here in South Carolina and many other parts of the world.-- ...
